Architecture
The Ancient Romans brought many new architectural ideas, including arches and domes. They built amazing aqueducts, theatres, arenas, baths, basilicas and temples. They even invented a new building material, concrete. Other materials used were marble, limestone and brick.
They also took from the Greeks, including the orders of architecture, the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. The Doric style was the simplest style. The Ionic used scroll like decorations and the Corinthian intricately carved patterns, often featuring curled leaves or flowers. They added their own ideas combining Ionic and Corinthian styles, creating composite columns, and made Tuscan columns, inspired by the Doric. The Romans also started to put columns into buildings even when they were not structurally necessary, but for pure decoration purposes.
